Tour Overview

Upper Mustang lies north of Annapurna at 2,800–4,200m, featuring eroded red cliffs, Kali Gandaki gorge, and Loba people's preserved Buddhist traditions.�� Permits are mandatory (Restricted Area Permit ~USD per day 50 $ for foreigners, plus ACAP); book via licensed operators. Best in spring (Mar-May) or autumn (Sep-Nov) for clear skies; costs range USD 500–1,650/person for 7 days, covering jeep, guide, meals, lodging (teahouses).��

Key Tips

Travel by sturdy 4WD due to rough roads; acclimatize in Lo Manthang to avoid altitude issues (stay hydrated, no alcohol). Pack layers, sunscreen, dust mask, cash (no ATMs past Jomsom guides mandatory for foreigners.  From Kathmandu, fly to Pokhara/Jomsom to shorten if needed.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Jomsom & Trek to Kagbeni (2,800m)

Scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. Begin trekking along the Kali Gandaki River to the ancient village of Kagbeni. Explore narrow alleys and monasteries.


Day 2: Kagbeni to Chele (3,050m)

Enter the restricted Upper Mustang region. Trek through wind-sculpted cliffs, caves, and desert-like terrain, passing Tangbe village before reaching Chele.


Day 3: Chele to Syangboche (3,800m)

A challenging yet rewarding day crossing high passes like Taklam La and Dajori La. Enjoy stunning views and reach Syangboche.


Day 4: Syangboche to Ghami (3,520m)

Trek through arid plateaus and colorful rock formations. Visit the longest Mani wall in Mustang near Ghami.


Day 5: Ghami to Lo Manthang (3,840m)

Cross Charang village and pass ancient monasteries before reaching the walled kingdom of Lo Manthang—the cultural heart of Mustang.


Day 6: Explore Lo Manthang

Acclimatization and exploration day. Visit royal palace, monasteries like Jampa and Thubchen, and nearby caves. Experience rich Tibetan Buddhist culture.


Day 7: Trek Back to Dhakmar / Ghami

Return trek via a different route through rugged landscapes, dramatic red cliffs, and spiritual chortens. Overnight at Dhakmar or Ghami.


Day 8: Trek to Jomsom via Kagbeni

Final day trek back to Jomsom through Kagbeni. Celebrate the completion of an unforgettable Himalayan journey.
